Platypus (Lobster Shack)

Bar style Decor and definitely a place you wanna come pop by after work drinks accompanied with your cravings for lobster rolls. After all everyone says lobsters goes well with beer! 😜

Red Miso & Sesame (No Mayo) lobster roll - Nice akimiso infused lobster meat with aged soy sauce. But I think it's too fusion for my liking. Nice but could be better..

Spicy Roasted Garlic - the butter poached lobster meat was marinated well but the garlic flakes and mayo drowned it a tad too much. Still taste great! 😊

Cajun Kings

Took a gamble to try and visit this place during a Sunday and look at the crowd! Luckily they managed to sit 3 of us on a small table with minimal wait. Otherwise if we would have come here on Fri or Sat we will be left with a hungry stomach as you will not get a seating on a busy night.

This is on a Sunday! Place is packed. Make sure to reserve before coming.

Southern fried chicken = Awesome & Satisfied!

Plain corn and slaw. Simple and good.

The sauce on the mayo was nicely balanced and the fries were seasoned perfectly as well.

We did not manage to order any of the dungeoness crabs but I heard it's their signature. The selection we had was enough to feed our hungry bellies.

The sauce is just nice and and not overwhelming. I'll definitely be back to get my hands tucked into those dungeoness crabs next time round! 😜

British Hainan

A sense of nostalgia just around your door step. We stumbled upon this little gem on the corner as we drove past Carpmael Rd. From the outside you could already tell that this place has stopped time in the 70-80s' because of their antique furnitures! :)
They have a lovely array of furnitures which the owner (Frederick Puah) collects and apparently what you see in the restaurant is not all of his treasures as he has the good ones stashed away in his private collection!

Nice collection of beautifully decorated antiques. There's more inside!!

Beef stew - It's their signature dish here and it's a must try!

Good ol Pork chop with that sweet and sour sauce that always brings you back memories. Great for children coz I know my daughter devoured it within minutes it arrived!

House Dempsey

Came here on a busy Sunday with the kids. This place is super kid friendly for those who have children. We came here to support one of our friend's pop up booth selling some canvas prints. House is a popular place amongst the local who haunts here for their amazing brunch meals.

We only managed to try 2 dishes as we know the dishes here tends to be pretty large. And yes we weren't surprised when it arrived. Both dishes we had below were totally up to expectation and superbly delicious. Next time we come back, we will attempt to try their other dishes on their menu.

Bay Prawns Spaghetti Capellini (Chilli with prawn bolognese and braised baby leeks garnished with micro herbs, Topped with pecorino cheese shavings)

The seafood taste on the gravy was a perfect balance. And the spaghetti is perfectly al dante done. Thumbs up and what I worry is resisting myself to order it again for my next visit because I want to try their other stuffs on their menu.

Asian pork sliders (Prime pork belly cuts tenderly and longingly braised with premium soy sauce accompanied with asian spice and a kick of chilli) with Taro truffle fries

The pork was a little tough for my liking but the taste makes up for it. Typical "Tau Yew Bak" asian pork gravy done perfectly. And the taro truffle fries were a bonus for us to wash our palettes in...haha

Mint Berry Gin Fizz (Gin, Creme de Cassis, Pressed Lemon)

Ordered this refreshing House signature cocktail. Guaranteed a thirst quencher and de-stress for relaxing weekend! =)

Bistro @ Gardenasia

We were having our family stay-cation in Kranji area and we thought we drive around the area to hunt for food. So stumbled across this little gem not too far away from our hotel. From the outside it could be easily missed as the sign posted was not very clear. Luckily enough my wife's hungry eyes managed to spot it.

As you entered the bistro, you are welcomed by a huge man made pond right in the middle of the Bistro. It was very impressive and I have to say the mist blower gave it a nice ambience as well... haha.

Rosella with real cactus extract (Awesome thirst quencher on this hot lovely day!)

Mee Goreng Pasta

I have to say this is probably one of the top mee goreng dishes I had Singapore to be honest. Most of what you get around Singapore are this chefs tends to dye their Mee Goreng noodles in red colour to make it look appetising but in fact does the opposite for me. As a born and bred Malaysian, I am obviously very particular about how Malaysian food supposed to be cooked and taste like. =P

Ribeye Steak

For a bistro cafe, I thought the steak was pretty good. Despite it slightly done more towards medium well when I ordered it medium rare. Taste wise was pretty good and the caramelised onions and gravy makes it juicer to chomp on it.

Portobello mushroom salad

I was looking forward to this dish as I wanted some greens in my system. However, I felt that the leaves and mushroom were a tad bit dry. For the price, I reckon the portobello mushroom could be a bit bigger.

Coast & Company

Not a big fan of cycling but the missus said that we should check out this little quaint place in Siglap area. A try we did. As you walk in the cafe looks very slick and simple. And I always like simple! Very nice decor with the bare look!

By the way the bicycle pictured in the photo above cost SGD 2850. So as you can see this place is for the serious enthusiast! I have to say it was a work of art though. It definitely felt expensive compare the ones I bought from Giant Hypermarket! haha =P

Entrance of the Cafe

Simple rectangular shaped cafe leading to the back of the cool open glass concept workshop! Love it!

Sour cream Cheese Toast

Nothing spectacular and the honey comb was a little bit too hard. Love the sour cream though.... Created a well mix of sweet and sour.

Rendang Hot Dog

This was a unique one. I have always wanted to kind of try this at home due to the inspiration of eating too much coney dogs and thinking to myself "What if I were to replace the chilli with rendang?" Anyways when the Rendang Hot Dog came, it was how I imagined it to taste like but more. I think its because of the gourmet sausage the've used. Thumbs up! Make sure you try it if you are around this neck of the woods.

We came here with an objective to eat and we were told by their lovely coffee barista they are actually popular for their coffees! If we have known.... we probably be spending a longer time enjoying sipping a cuppa here! I guess our tummies got the best of us.

Le Petit Paradis

We always seem to miss this 'petit' place on East Coast Rd (sorry for the pun!). If you live along this road you will understand that there is a huge turnover of lovely restaurants due to the challenges of hike in rental fees.
I guess from experience we know restaurants around this area tends to change/ close down within a few months. So we thought we better give this one a try! (knock on wood which I hope this one don't disappear) coz we really liked the food here. :)

Their decor was clean, white and simple. It was very welcoming and their menu has just a few items which makes it great for ordering. I am always a fan of menus which makes it easier for you to decide what you want. Just like airplane meals "Chicken" or "Fish"?.. haha

Crispy Pork Belly Confit with Sous-vide egg, Salad, Mashed potato and apple Balsamic reduction

This dish was rather interesting with the touch of the Sous-vide egg. I can sort of understand why the chef did it this way to avoid it being too dry as the crispy pork belly can be a tad bit salty.

Beef and Brie Burger (Homemade beef patty, brie, Caramelised onions, lettuce and tomato on toasted brioche bun

Love this funky burger with the touch of brie. I thought the balance was just right and the patty was not too dry. The ingredients blended in very well and I will definitely come back just to have this dish.

Lola's Cafe

We were on a lookout for great brunch places around Singapore and it had to be good value. Found this little gem in the heart of Kovan. Such a cool little cafe with cool decor. Also not to mention as you walk in you are welcomed by the side fridge displaying their lovely cakes before you start with your main meal.

We went on a weekday just before lunch time. And just look at the picture below..... feels like everyone is actually on public holiday. And this place is not in the CBD area..... so I guess the food is definitely good judging by the crowd.

Green Tea Macha Latte

Very nice creamy Macha Latte. It wasn't too sweet nor too creamy. Well done!

Butter Croissant

This was the popular dish in the whole cafe. You could see everyone's table definitely have this dish on their orders. It was definitely good and tasted full of buttery goodness! Also I thought it was cool how they mix some of them oregano herbs in their scrambled eggs to give it a unique taste. So easy and yet so good. Definitely recommend you order this when you come this place.

Honey Papprika Chicken Wings

This however was a very good surprise! I am a fan of chicken wings and having chicken wings for brunch was probably not my main choice. Thought I give it a try and it did not disappoint! I am craving for it as I am typing this. I think honey and deep fried chicken really does go well together. I am definitely coming back here just to eat this dish. AWESOME! - nuff said.

Brussels Sprouts

Had a tough time figuring out where to bring the kids and have a good meal at the same time. So we thought we go the distance by heading down south to sentosa cove. Full of space and water! What they are lack of is probably humans which was great and all we needed to de-stress! Haha

Brussels Sprout was great for a place for kids. Beat part of all kids eat free! Can't complain about that. We ordered a few different array of spreads.

The seafood pasta was awesome and they were very generous with the mussels and prawns. It's swimming in their seafood bisque which I thought was perfect and not too salty. Very strong creamy broth.

The lamb shank was not bad either. The shank was generously huge surprisingly!

To be honest the sizes of the dishes here are pretty generous big portions. Just have a look at the pic above of the fish and chips I ordered. Pretty much had the whole fillet of a large fish! Haha. The batter was light and not too puffy but the fish inside was slightly soft in my opinion. Other than that it's a decent good portion  of good ol fish and chips.

Next up we definitely have to have space for desserts. And like I mentioned about their portions.... HUGE! The waffle came to us crispy and crunchy and after a while when the ice cream melted you would think it be soft but it wasn't. So I give it a thumbs up for that!

The vanilla creame brûlée was ok. I definitely had better but this is not to say it's not good. Out of all their dish we had, this is probably my least favorite. Maybe they are better for their mains in this restaurants.

Overall I think the food here is decent and if you ever have a tough time thinking of where to take your children. Look no further this place caters it all and you can just sit back relax and have a beer in your hand while watching the world pass by or your children tiring themselves out! ;)

Burnt Ends

This is a very late entry but it's better than never!

I had the pleasure of being surprised by my lovely wife for a great birthday dinner. She took me to Burnt Ends which is a cool bar restaurant catering to a lot of the swanky business folks in the CBD. As you walk in, you could almost kinda feel like you are in a Japanese Izakaya restaurant but a western twist! Everyone all sat on a bar like concept watching the Chef in all it's glory cooking or barbecuing your awesome meal.

We started it off for appertizers with their famous quail eggs. Which sadly I did not managed to take a photo of! But It is totally recommended as they are actually smoked to perfection. You can taste the oakey smoke taste on every bite and it can become very addictive!

Next up we had their sautéed leek with brown butter and topped with hazelnuts and capers. You can also taste the smokiness on it too. The butter wasn't overwhelming and everything complimented very naturally. Who would have thought that hazelnuts goes well with leeks?! And it did! Perfect!

It's a very tapas like concept here in this restaurant. Most of everything looks really good and of course we can't afford to eat the whole restaurant. We settled for another one of their selected signatures - 'Pulled Pork Sanger Burger/ Sandwich'. It was superb and the meat was very well barbecued and tender. Again you could taste the smokiness on the meat as well! :)

Now for the main superstar - 'Wagyu Cube Roll'. I have been waiting for this the whole night and when it arrived I just wanted to tuck into it almost forgetting to take a pic! I know it looked like a really simple dish from the picture but to me it was simple and deliciously plated. All you need while having steak is a speck of slight greens on the side to make you feel you had a balanced meal! Haha. The meat is super super tender as you can cut it with a butter knife. I guess they don't call it wagyu for nothing! It was very well seasoned and you could taste the whole meat for how it is without ruining it. This how I love my steaks and I am very particular about how I like having my steaks for those who knows me. This was done perfectly well for me and I totally enjoyed and savored every small bites to make my meal last longer! Haha.

Of course we can't leave without having desserts. The oven roasted banana was awesome and it was not overdone so the texture was soft but not mushy. And the caramel ice cream was not too sweet and it makes you feel that one bite is just not enough whenever you sink your teeth in it. The balance of hot and cold on one plate was just right. I know from the pic it doesn't look that appetizing but it was definitely very flavorsome for me and it's a good finish for the end of a good dinner.

Overall. Make sure you pay a visit to this place. Need not say much more. The food is that great and what's more better is that you can see the bearded chef in action preparing and cooking your meal! :)
