Lai Heng Bak Kut Teh

This locally home operated BKT restaurant has been around for a long time. They are not like the usual ones that operates within the Klang commercial areas. Definitely a hidden gem only for true BKT lovers! Most klang people won't or have not heard of them. They are not that easy to locate but if you are familiar with klang and have your GPS pin point the exact location then you have no issues.

As they are unique to themselves, this joint does not operate the same way like the rest of their other rivals. They only serve claypot so it's not like your usual pig cuts by bowls for the klang-ons whom are used to.

The oil rice has a great balance and it didn't come out too oily. It has a good fragrance to it as well.

The claypot servings normally comes with your usual few pieces of lettuce, mushrooms and 'fu-chuk' = tofu skin which is great. Makes a difference for usual Klang BKT like me whom always just chomping on the meat most the time! :)

The meat itself was really tender and it doesn't have the porky taste like some of the other BKT joints. I ordered the 'Sei Kut' = small bone which was really good because it wasn't too fatty and you know when you have the meat close to bone it's guaranteed to be super tender!

The broth was really smooth and clearer than the usual ones I had. Guaranteed to be unlimited soup refills upon request unlike most of Lai Heng's rivals whom skimp on their liquid gold.

Overall the bak kut teh here is really good. Probably one of the best few I had in klang. And they being a family owned running from their own home you can definitely be guaranteed consistency in their quality. Don't assume this place will be quite since is out of no where. Make sure come early to beat the lunch crowd as Lai Heng is very well known among the local BKT lovers in Klang.

Edo-Ichi

I don't go to many Japanese restaurant and wife thought it would be nice to give the family a treat since that's her favorite!

The missus was on a fasting period from raw food during her journey of pregnancy to delivery. So she thought it was time to break this fast by coming to Endo-ichi as she heard the reviews there were pretty good!

We had their version of a salmon chirasi. It was very good and you could taste the salmon was very fresh. It was a bowl of very generous slices of salmon pieces. The salmon roe was a hit with the children coz they thought it was like exploding flavored jellies in their mouth.

Shake Oyako Don

Next up we ordered their salmon mentai roll. You come to a Japanese restaurant you definitely can't leave without ordering at least a plate of sushi and so we did. The crispy salmon skin on the top really put the icing to the cake on the very last bite. It was something of a soft and hard collide with a great outcome.
Salmon mentai island roll

For me, I am a fan of beef so I ordered the Gyu Shogayaki set that was accompanied with sashimi. It was my version of a surf and turf... Haha! It was a huge bento serving as well and I was not able to finish it.

Sashimi to gyu shogayaki set

The children had the soba noodle. It was plain simple comfort food for the kids. Definitely can't go wrong with that. I had a little sip soup and spoonful of the noodles and thought it was done just right and the soba wasn't too hard. The soup however was a little bit on the salty side but it was ok for the kids. They gobbled it up as soon as I wanted to take the next bite......

Kitsume Soba

Overall the food was really good and the value was even better! Definitely recommended for all Japanese food lovers. You can't go wrong when you see  people dining in the restaurant.

Cheong Foh

Today was a very fortunate day for me to try out one of the old school long standing kopitiam in Klang.

They are famous for their half boiled eggs and roti bakar. So when in rome, we did exactly that. The eggs were super fresh and the yoke was orange rather than the standard yellow ones you get elsewhere. Texture was smooth and it was done just right and how I liked it. Couldn't be more perfect!

Next up I tried their wantan mee as it seems it was the regular thing most of the folks there order while I peered across the other patron's tables. The wantan mee to me was not bad. But I have to be honest I had better. The noodles are still crunchy and not too soft which was what i was looking for. Char Siew that accompanied it was Abit on the tough side but  besides that it was a decent plate of good ol' wantan mee.

Make sure to also order their kopi as it is really good and traditional.

Johnny Rockets @ Sunway Pyramid

This place has just recently been launched not to long ago. I told myself I need to try it to see what is the hype all about!

So this was a fantastic opportunity coz this branch of Johnny Rockets has got a children play area! It's a definitely a winner for me when any of these new hip restaurants cater to young children as well while the parents can pig out! :)

The interior was a kids playground as well for adults like me. It's like I have been transcend to a time where our generation can just go into a diner and grab themselves a milkshake listening to music with proper lyrics.... (What I am trying to say is actually I am getting old) haha.

We were greeted with smiles from the moment we walked in. That I can tell you it really make a difference to the customers because it lightens up anyone's day when someone smiles at you. It's little effort for big results! :) it's been a while since we have experience great service in our Malaysian shores and I think we have to step up our game to compete globally if you want to increase tourism in this beautiful country.

We ordered the Bacon Cheddar Single. It came as a big serving and I can tell you their patties were very moist and succulent. It doesn't feel processed and dry that's for sure. The fries and the slaws were a great compliment!

Second burger was the smokehouse single. This one was a little more moist and I totally loved their sautéed onions. It was caramelized to perfection. This burger was juicer than the bacon cheddar single. I think it had a little but more sauce and the sautéed caramelized onions gave it the extra moist factor. Oh yes, please make sure you order their sweet potato fries. It was super yum! I was trying very hard to stop my daughter from stealing all my chips.....

Overall, my verdict is that this place is über cool if you want to bring your children and hang out with your friends. When you step in the restaurant you feel like young kid yourself as well! :)
Oh yes I forgotten to mentioned that they do dancing during intervals as well. I managed to sit through 2 songs (footloose and Psy's Mother father gentlemen) during my eating session. I thought that was pretty cool and awkward at the same time as it brought back memories of a time when I was in a Thai club seeing them so perfectly choreographed. Not in a bad dodgy way but more of a 'fun' Thai club dancing kinda way ;P
Another thing I was really happy with the place is that the waiters are so thoughtful with parents with children. They provided my children with coloring crayons and paper. I thought that won me over when I stepped in this restaurant. I fully recommend this place and make sure you their signatures burger. They definitely live up to the hype! :)

Maria's Steak & Cafe @ Damansara Perdana

This hidden gem is a definitely a great find! The restaurant is actually not on the main ground floor where the foot traffic is but if you are a regular you will definitely have no issue looking for it. For the benefit of the newbies, take the elevator next to Old Town White Coffee to the floor above and you will be able to find it. The ambience of the cafe is really cozy and I reckon is also due to their dim lighting. Hence the photos I have taken does not do justice to the dishes we ate.

The steaks here are awesome and for a family run steak joint like this, they have many variety of cuts from Japanese Kobe to Australian Wagyus. We ordered a variety of their signatures. To start of as our version of appetizers we shared a plate of lamb cutlets and a rib-eye fillet! (Appetizers for kings... Haha).

NZ Lamb cutlets - very tender and made just right! Maybe coz it's from NZ that's probably why it tasted so great since the country's best exports are their lamb meat! :)

Ribeye - was a little tough for my liking but I guess if you see the other pictures of what we ate for our mains you can understand why.... Haha

Wagyu 5 - I did not managed to capture the zoom in picture to its marbling for you because of the dim lighting but I can assure you this was very tasty indeed. The marbling on it was just nice and but we had the meat done 'medium' due to preference. So it didn't do the meat justice.

Wagyu 8 - Next up we had their number 8 and boy I tell you this was something you would like the taste of the meat lingering in your mouth before you sleep at night so you can wake up remembering the taste of the meat you had yesterday. Marbling was perfect and you can literally cut it with a butter knife if they forgot to serve you a steak knife. Again the pictures don't do justice but you just have to experience it yourself.
* I am more of a Japanese wagyu guy but these Australian ones I had could definitely prove to be a heavy contender to the Jap Wagyus for sure.

Overall my verdict of Maria's steak cafe is definitely a must visit for all steak lovers!. I have wasted a lot of money on expensive steaks and this one definitely going to be my regular joint for my affordable steak fix in the future! :)

Restoran Vicchuda @ Damansara Utama

This has been my ritual after my weekly  basketball session. I tell myself I totally deserve the calories but after eating here at Vicchuda, I kinda felt all the running around on the court was all in vain.

First and foremost if you happen to visit Vicchuda, please make sure you order their Paku Belacan. This elusive vegetable is very sought after (well to me it is because I like the taste and texture of it). I have to say that this place does it really well. The belacan is not overpowering and to cook the Paku you need some skills to as you don't want it too undercook as it might be tough on the stems. However, everytime when I come dine here at Vichudda they always get the consistency right. Thumbs up!

Next if you are fan of deep fried omelette, please make sure you order their telur dadar! I know it's just eggs and it's nothing special. But to me the crispiness of it really makes me savor every bite. There is just one time I ordered 3 telur dadar just for me self! Haha

This time round I tried their tepung sotong. For some reason I think this was their most dissapointing dish. I still prefer their tepung udang. That by far still beats the sotong version as all I can taste is just the tepung and one pathetic strip of sotong.... That I have to say they definitely have room for improvement!

Overall the food here is awesome and the price is right and affordable. You don't have to break your bank just to eat here. Vicchuda have been establish here for the longest time I know. Definitely more than 20 years. So I guess it's obviously they are doing something right! :)

Toast & Roast

This has to be one of the best char siew pork I have tasted in PJ. Not many could come close to this calibre and skills in perfecting the art of making char siew. Of course they have the infamous rival Meng Kee. So hence I guess Toast & Roast have pretty much monopolized the SS2 locals to haunt this joint! :)

Don't come too late as they normally sell out by 2pm. The definitely must have here is their Hakka noodles and their signature char siew. Words can't describe how tender their meat is after the grilling and you can see the sugar just glistens on the outer layer of the pork. Also not to mention their just right crispy outer skin that makes every bite so decadent. Makes me hungry just writing it now.

Also try their roast pork. But of course it won't beat their char siew. It is still not a bad side dish while you chomp your teeth on this lovelies.

Good luck and enjoy!

Lucky Loke

This 'Tai Chow' restaurant has been the SS3 local haunts for the longest time. Make sure to make a booking before coming in a large group coz you may not get a seat if you want to eat past dinner time!

This is one of the few tai chow restaurants that you will notice the original cook and owner still slaving away in the kitchen to feed the hungry mouths of his loyal customers! You can't miss him. He is the skinny guy with his white shirt half unbutton looking like a gangster rather than a chef! Haha.

We ordered the few below signature dishes and it was needless to say it was very yummy and left us very satisfied to comeback for more! :)

Braised pork with Yam

Sweet Garlic and small dried prawns fried pig intestine

The 4 heavenly kings (brinjal, okra, long beans, four angle beans)

Oatmeal & salted egg deep fried prawns

Signature deep fried fish with garlic and Thai sauce

Samy & Ah Her

Finally I have managed to try this place as it is always pack with the locals of Berkeley folks haunting this BKT joint for many years! Don't come too late coz you might not get the cuts you want. I for one did not manage to try their pai kut as I strolled too late at 11am!

This restaurant is a joint venture between two of top klang BKT specialist! You can only expect double happiness from every spoonful you slurp up from your spoon while tucking into their dish.

We tried their 'Sei Kut' = small bone, which was really tender and not too much fat which is how I like it. The broth as you can see from the pic is not much. If you are a fan of smothering your rice with soup, then this is not a place for you. Their soup is like liquid gold so don't bother asking refills unless of course you crave for the deadly 'wtf' stare from the lady boss....

Second bowl was my favorite lean meat. I know you think I'm crazy coming to a BKT joint to eat lean meat but each to their own I guess. I can confidently say that the meat is so tender and when you put it in your mouth it just literally melt after the long boil to get that texture. Give it a go and you are sure not be dissapointed.

And then the glutton fest continues with the rest of the different parts of the pig in a bowl. Next superstar is their spare ribs...

And then we had the leg bone...

And their intestines....
And their 3 layer belly....

Mission completed (felt like it was a boat noodle challenge)..... Haha

I don't put any filters or effects to my pics so that I want you to see it as it is. Nothing fancy but just pure simple good food. :)

Overall the BKT is superb and I will definitely come earlier to get my other cuts before they run out! Good luck!
